Protective PE film making process as follow:

Raw materials and ingredients → Film blowing to produce PE base film → Base film inspection → (Optional: Logo printing) → Corona treatment → Adhesive preparation → Coating and lamination → Oven drying → Cooling and large roll collection → Constant temperature aging → Rewinding and product inspection → Slitting → Finished product inspection → Packaging and warehousing


1. Raw materials and ingredients (determine the basic performance of the membrane)

Raw materials: LLDPE/LDPE plastic particles, as needed:

Black and white masterbatch: black masterbatch, white masterbatch

R1: "Anti-aging" must be translated as anti-aging.  

Original: Anti-aging masterbatch (for outdoor aluminum material storage and use)  


2. Film blowing (production of PE base film)

The particles are fed into the extruder and melted at 160–220°C;

The annular die extrudes a tubular bubble, which is inflated by compressed air;

The wind ring cools and shapes the material, while the herringbone plate flattens the tube film;

The PE base film is traction-reeling into large-width rolls (30~100μm, 3~10 deniers).

Key points: uniform thickness, no crystal points, no pinholes; thickness tolerance directly affects the film application effect.


3. Pre examination of basement membrane

Detect thickness, tensile strength, and surface cleanliness; Unqualified base film is prohibited from entering the coating process


4. [Optional] gravure printing (customized LOGO, warning text)

When the customer needs to add a protective film with words, this process is added. After printing is completed, the roll is collected and then sent for coating


5. Corona treatment (very crucial!)

The surface energy of PE itself is extremely low, and the adhesive cannot stick firmly.

By bombarding the film adhesive surface with high-voltage discharge, the surface tension is increased to 42-50 dynes


6. Glue mixing (determining viscosity and whether there will be residue)

Mainstream: water-based acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive


7. Coating (core process of the entire production line)

The coating machine uses micro concave rollers/comma scrapers to evenly apply the adhesive to the corona surface;

Control the amount of dry adhesive coating: 1.2-2.5g/㎡ (the adhesive layer is not visible to the naked eye).

After coating, the film is continuously fed into a multi-stage oven: a gradient heating of 60-120 ℃ is applied to evaporate water/solvent


8. Cooling+Roll up

After leaving the oven, the semi-finished mother rolls (1.3m, 1.6m, 1.8m wide rolls) are solidified by cooling rollers, and the adhesive layer is solidified


9. Constant temperature curing (most easily omitted by small factories)

The mother roll is sent to the maturation room and left to stand at 25-35 ℃ for 24-72 hours

Function: Allow the adhesive molecules to fully crosslink and stabilize the peeling force;

👉 Consequences of non maturation: The adhesive of the newly produced film fluctuates, and it is difficult to peel off the film after storing the aluminum material for a period of time in summer due to residual glue


10. Roll up&Online Inspection for protective film

Re roll the matured large roll; The machine automatically detects crystal points, scratches, overspray, and bubbles; Simultaneously remove defective segments


11. Cutting (cutting according to customer order size) for aluminum profile protective film

Cut into finished small rolls according to the required width (50mm, 100mm, 1200mm, etc.) and length;

Control cutting tension to prevent film stretching deformation and uneven end faces


12. Final inspection of finished products+retention of samples

Sampling test: Peel strength (viscosity), tensile strength, temperature resistance, and whether there is residual adhesive during peeling;

Distinguishing detection standards: aluminum profile film focuses on measuring angular coverage, while aluminum sheet film focuses on measuring bending and tear resistance


Suggest customer cutting into final width of protective PE film by themself, if cut in our factory, after long time , the paper core of rolling will deformation, supply Protective PE film cutting machine :


Aluminum profile protective film can use PE material, also can use PVC material, but PE material is more popular , because of cheaper price, and less thickness, and easy to remove without glue stick to aluminum profile.
